Months in the Islamic calendar can be on one day or the other, depending on the new moon. If the new moon is seen, then the new month falls on the next day, if not, the day after tomorrow.
So it was Sunday, and I wanted to know if Ramadhan was going to fall on Monday or Tuesday, and this is no small matter, because I have to fast on the day.
But all newspapers, TV channels, facebook statuses flood and spam 'selamat berpuasa' since Thursday, which left me wondering, on which day does Ramadhan really start?
Why can't people wait til Ramdhan REALLY start to start sending greetings and wishes, instead of confusing people who are actually waiting for the arrival of Ramadhan?
Most people I know who spam 'Selamat Berpuasa' 2 days or weeks earlier aren't even fasting, and couldn't care less about the fasting month.
I just hope that the same thing doesn't happen for Hari Raya, because Hari Raya, like the start of Ramadhan, can fall on either one day, or the next. And that means, muslims have to fast for one more day, or start celebrating and Malaysian muslims can start blowing their hands off with fireworks the next day (?).
Anyway, happy fasting, and happy watching other people fast if you aren't. And please, don't confuse others who aren't as well informed about when Hari Raya is , eg: me.
